my 30/30 list

May 13th, 2010

Sooo, this year I turn the big 3-0. While some people really dread this birthday, I’m pretty excited about it. I feel like I’ve had a good run in my twenties, I’ve done a lot (graduated college, met and married my best friend, moved to nyc, started this blog…), met amazing people and generally had fun. Oh but wait, there are a few things I want to do before the big day arrives, so I decided to make a list of 30 things to do before I turn 30 (inspired by Nicole’s list). Some things are little, some things are big, but they’re all fun. Also, I’m not saying in any way, shape or form that these things can’t be done after 30, in fact I’m hoping some of them will continue well into my thirties (hello dance class and delicious margarita making).

I have 28 weeks to complete my list and I hope you’ll come along on the ride. I’ll be posting updates as I complete them and when November 26th rolls around, we’ll have a celebration. Oh, what would you put on your list?

That’s a great list, I’m glad to hear you’re not freaked out about 30! There’s a lot of things I’d like to do myself on there.

I’ll think about my list, but I’m not yet 21 so I’d like to think I’ve got heaps of time to do lots of amazing things before I’m 30!

wow, what a great list and great idea of 30/30!
well, I turned 31 this year and last year was definitly the start of my new life.
I love your list, especially the visit to Paris :)

I might start a list 100in1001: a hundred things in 1001 days. just to celebrate the next years in my 30ies.

    Greetings from Zurich, Switzerland.

I loved the idea of making a 30/30 list! I’m about to turn 29 in june, so I guess I’ll be thinking about making a 30/30 list for next year! Great idea!

I turned 29 just two days ago…maybe I should make a list of things to do before I turn 30, too! That’s a good idea. I love your list, too. Nothing completely unattainable, but all things that seem satisfying and meaningful…or, at least, a lot of fun!

What a great list. I think you should take the dance class first so you can show off all your rockin moves at the dance club and be an expert critic at the dance performance you attend. Congratulations on all your 29 years’ worth of accomplishments. (Especially Remedy Quarterly, which I love.)

I’ve been reading for a while, but this may be my first comment, because I just discovered we’re almost exactly the same age! I’ll turn 30 on Dec. 1. I may have to come up with my own list. I’m starting with #7 – taking a belly dancing class this June with an old friend!

Hmmm, this is a terrifically fantastic idea. I turn 30 (which is still really strange to type) on June 8, less than a month away. I might make a list to do between 30 and 31 though, since it seems a little stressful to try to cram it in now. But I love the idea—and about celebrating the age that we are and taking the time to try to do things that intrigue us.

Love the list-I see some similar goals before my 30th in a little over 2 years. When I got to the Shipshewana part, I stopped in my tracks b/c I’m originally from Indiana and it’s a yearly family tradition to go there. I miss that summer day now that I’m near Minneapolis. Good luck!

Happy (pending) birthday! 30 isn’t so bad – I used to think it was, but then I got older :-P I’ll have to think about my list and get back to you!

Nice list Kelly! I live in Manhattan, but I went to BAM (Brooklyn Academy of Music) and it was awesome! Maybe you’ve done it so often it doesn’t need to be on your list, but I recommend it :) Keep us updated how that list works for you! Great picks :)

Thank you all for your awesome comments!
    Lindsey-
I’ve been thinking about taking a belly dancing class… it just sounds like fun!
    the dabble-
Both my husband and I had a tradition of going to Shipshewana with our moms each year. I haven’t been in so long, I can’t wait to go again, if only for the root beer float.
    Carmen-
we live right by BAM and have seen many movies, but have never seen a performance. I’m definitely thinking about seeing something there. thanks for the tip!

Love it! Some ambitious things on there and some very sweet things. I can’t wait to hear what you accomplish! 30 – so young. :)

Yes, I went there for an opera and it was the best one I’ve ever seen (including the one that bears my name). It had dance & singing & acting in it. Plus, it’s always great to be one of the youngest people at a cultural event, no? ;)

Great list! I started making my own mayo this year and I will never buy it in the store again. It is SO much better if you make it yourself and incredibly easy. Before making it, I looked online for tips and ideas and a lot of sources made it sound very tricky, but it’s not at all. Feel free to email me if you’d like the recipe :)

I love your list! I made a list on the same lines for things I want to do in 2010. 5 months into the year already, I better go review it! I can’t wait to read updates about this list. Going to Paris is on my list as well. We might just run into each other :D

I like your list. I have also a list about where I want to go in my life. Reading yours I found Kitchen Arts & Letters. Now I want to go there too. It’s not so easy for me because I live in Budapest, Hungary. But one day I will get there. I have other New York places on my list where I’d love to go so one more doesn’t make a difference. :)

Have fun completing your 30/30 list! :)

Just came across your blog and I love it. Great idea and great list. I turn 32 in a couple of months. Turning 30 was really scary and uncomfortable for me. I think I’m finally settling into my 30′s and since turning 30 I’ve been mentally documenting all of my firsts…from first trip overseas (Italy) to tasting a fresh fig. I found both of those to be awesome. Here’s to more awesomeness in our 30′s and beyond.

Love the list. I hope you had the Earl Grey Vodka at Angel’s Share. They simply mix it with grapefruit juice. It’s amazing, and easy to make at home! Earl Grey only needs about a day (or even less) to steep in vodka. Delicious. Also, I recommend interviewing your grandmother at StoryCorps. NYC is lucky to have a permanent booth!

What a wonderful idea! I’ll have to make a list for myself, with 30 a little under 2 years away :)
I’m sure there are a ton of great burlesque shows, however I highly recommend the Peekaboo Revue out of Philly. Definitely a fun time!
